Sudden - Sudden
It’s very rare these days to find an excellent independently released electronica album. Sudden just happens to be one of those rare gems. Sudden is the project of Paul Edwards and Mark Stewart. They met in Windsor, Ontario (Paul originally from Scotland) and started collaborating on new a creative electronic music. Sudden was the result. They started sharing the music that they were making on the web via their website (http://www.suddenspace.com) and after posting only 15 tracks they had gotten over 250,000 downloads. Not bad for a couple of bedroom musicians. It’s time to take their music to the next level, which entailed releasing a full-length album. Rather than shop around for a label and lose most of their cash to money-hungry executives they decided to do it all themselves. They secured a distribution deal with Canada’s Outside music and the rest is history. Sudden’s music is along the lines of some of the releases you would hear on Metropolis, dark and yet very rhythmic. It has some nods to Skinny Puppy but a little more relevant. The tracks are exclusively instrumentals, save a few vocal samples being used. Sudden is a case of an artist realizing that they have potential and doing something about it. They are focused on getting their music out to the masses and aren’t going to let anyone stop them. Sudden deserves to be heard.
