I was familiar with Norway's Sondre Lerche but had never gotten into his music before last summer at the Calgary Folk Festival. I think it was right before Elvis Costello was to make his appearance and this little guy gets up on the huge stage with just a guitar and literally entranced a field of onlookers. It wasn't until the next day that I realized that it was indeed Sondre Lerche. After that I was sold. Two Way Monologue is his much anticipated follow-up to Faces Down and fans should find that it was worth the wait. The album starts off with the soft, gentle violin line and instrumental called "Love You" bringing you into the album. Sondre takes over on "Track You Down" a very cool guitar track. One very charming track is "Counterspark". It's sunny and refreshing with all it's ba-ba-ba's and catchy chorus. But my favorite song is the playful "On The Tower" where Lerche uses some clever wordplay, interesting with English being his second language. Production is amazing as are the string arrangements on some of the songs. I find that I really have to be in the mood for Sondre but when I am it's beautiful. His songs are gentle and playful at the same time. Check out Two Way Monologue and your girlfriend will love it too.
