Foreign Legion is the the project from San Jose natives Prozack, DJ Design and Marc Stretch. They dropped their debut album Kidnapper Van: Beats To Rock While Bike Stealin in 2000 and have been getting good press ever since. After extensive touring Foreign Legion decided to take a break but it wasn't long before the execs at Look Records tracked them down for a follow-up album. Playtight is the result of the group reunion. While Playtight sounds very retro in feel, it still seems like a fresh slab of hip-hop. I think the thing that sets it apart from the mainstream is that FL are all about having a good time. They don't do any raping-hoe's and bullet-to-the-block lyrics. Instead they choose to sing about everyday activities. Take a listen to the track "Bring It" and the lyrics about blowing bubbles with my nicorette. One listen to Foreign Legion is not enough. You need to get into their frame of mind (fun) in order to appreciate what they are all about. They are great rappers and bring another dimension to the hip hop arena. Samples are really cool, even if they are a little old-school. Look for the solo project from Prozack due out later this year on Dreamworks Records.
