Spacey, psychedelic rock along the lines of the Elephant Six collective lives on in the form of All Night Radio. While the two members of All Night Radio (Dave Scher and Jimi Hey) have never done time in an E6 band, they have spent time with the psych-country Beachwood Sparks. I found that you really have to be in the mood for Spirit Stereo Frequency and also feel that no one would be immediately enthralled with the psych-rock contained within. That doesn't mean this music is bad. Quite the contrary because after about 4-5 initial listens I really started falling in love with All Night Radio and their spacey sounds. One of the smoothest tracks on Frequency is "You'll Be On Your Own". It gets moving pretty good but has an amazing harmony going on throughout. The E6 group would be jealous. Another thing I noticed is that this makes for good music to work to. Usually that means it's background music but in this case it's more the fact that the songs are really unobtrusive. If you are not in the right mode though, the songs can totally come off annoying. The final track simply titled "All Night Radio" is one of the albums most gentle tracks but the guys get a little carried away on samples. For the most part, Spirit Stereo Frequency works. It does take some warming up to but it does indeed work.
