1208 - Turn of the Screw
1208 is back with their follow-up to their sadly overlooked Feedback Is Payback. This time around they have metaphorically "tightened the screws" on Turn Of The Screw honing their highly melodic punk. Their sound is fairly SoCal even though they hail from the South Bay Area. Anyone looking for growling hardcore should stop reading right about here. These guys are all about melody but in a fairly aggressive fashion. Some of the songs tend to blend together but overall this has a great vibe to it and the more you listen to the album, the more 1208 just makes sense. One of may favorites is "Everyday" that has quite a warm verse leading up to a melodic chorus. On tracks like "Next Big Thing" they really pull out all the stops including the catchy chorus background "hey!". But then they follow up a hard hitting track like that with "Time To Remember", a track that Blink-182 must be jealous that they didn't write. While 1208 does have some similarities to Blink-182 they manage to keep class about the whole thing. They don't reach into the gutter and pull out trashy songs. The songs on Turn Of The Screw are of high calibre and are demanding repeated listens. They are a great addition to the Epitaph roster.
