Pepper - In With The Old
Pepper is a group that got their start in Kona, HI and have since brought their show to the mainland. They have played on the Warped Tour and are ready to release a brand new platter. This is the first album that I have heard from these Hawaiian cats and it is fairly impressive. They tend to use a dub/reggae sound mixed with a harder rock sort of like Sublime or 311. I hear a big early Living Colour influence with Pepper too. It's mostly Kaleo's vocals but some of the arrangements do sound familiar as well. The music is mostly funky and fun. There are some tracks that fall flat on their face like "Border Town" with what ends up being one of the most annoying uses of a slide guitar I have ever heard. The breakdown is that the album starts off strong with "Back Home" and "Are You Down" and seems to go a little downhill from there, ending off with some ballads that are average. Overall, In With The Old is a fairly decent album that should keep current fans happy and gain them a few more along the way.
