This is a catchy little album. Grey Does Matter is basically Jason Crawford creating bedroom music in New York City. He took on all duties including production and mixing. His songs are catchy in the way that Fountains of Wayne or Eels are. He is a one man show that really doesn't need anyone else in the mix. I found myself hitting play each time the album was over to go over it yet another time. There are 11 completely different songs (plus two radio edits) that show Grey Does Matter is a project that can work along all fronts. There are songs at pretty much all tempos except the ballad. Crawford does manage to escape the heartfelt sappy song. He gets cranking on "Deep Shit", which sounds almost like a metal song. One of my favorite tracks is "Zero" ("Anything times zero is zero"). One quote from Jason's bio is "100% Indie. No trust funds, private schools, record labels or benefactors were harmed in the making of this album." Indie indeed. Could it be much more indie than doing it all yourself? This is a fun album that any powerpop fanatic will eat up.
