Indianapolis-based Loretta is actually a 5 piece band that enjoys making sweeping epics as songs. They are a nice blend of radio friendly rock and what one might consider emo. Even though they are American based, they evoke a little bit of Brit-pop in the vein of Travis as well. The music on The Translation is a little predictable but I would rather hear a band like Loretta on the radio as opposed to 3 Doors Down or Nickelback. Loretta seems like they have a little more passion in their music as well as a little more diversity. The music is just heavy enough to get your head rocking but never really gets sappy enough to bring on a heartbreak. The music is primarily guitar-based rock with some soaring choruses where the Weidner brothers take on vocal responsibilities and prove themselves capable. In all honesty, if I was an A&R rep for a major label, I would seriously look at this quintet. They have some great hooks that would be a welcome addition to radio play. Like I said, nothing really new in the creativity department but the heart is here and the density of the arrangements are very defined.
