You don't really think of England when it comes to Emo. In fact, it's rare that you think of them at all in today's hardcore scene. The Hurt Process is a band from the UK that hopes to change all that. They play a type of hardcore/emo/melodic hardcore, whatever you want to call it, that is totally comparable to some of America's biggies like Thursday, Thrice and Beautiful Mistake. They aren't afraid to inject loads of melody underneath some heavy guitars and screaming vocals as well as harmonic vocals. I would say that Drive By Monologue is every bit as diverse as any of Thursday's output. I know that people who have been into this music for a while see a lot of repetition between bands but I still think that this type of music has a big future in the commercial world. Listen to "Tuesday" for a great example of the scream/gentle/hard sound that these Brits are capable of. Layers upon layers of different elements all lend themselves to a very interesting listen. Guitar hooks are all over as well. The beginning of "Opinion" shows some pretty catchy guitar lines. The Hurt Process is a good addition to the whole genre. The track "Come Home (Screaming)" almost reminds me of an Anthrax song. "Clarity" is a ballad. Yup, a ballad in fine rock style. The Hurt Process doesn't bring anything new to the table, just refinement showing that England is indeed listening to what American bands have to say.
