What better summer music is there than a Kiss album cranked to 11? Well, maybe try on Spin The Bottle, Koch Records new Tribute to Kiss. This is maybe not a far stretch of the imagination because quite a few of the people on this compilation were more Kiss' contemporaries rather than people who were influenced by the band. For instance, the opening track, "Detroit Rock City", is sung by Dee Snider with Doug Aldrich and Marco Mendoza both of Whitesnake and John Tempesta from Testament/White Zombie. Some of the other featured artists include Tommy Shaw (vocals on "Love Gun"), Steve Lukather, Mark Slaughter (vocals on "Cold Gin"), Robben Ford, Fred Coury, Kip Winger (vocals on "I Want You"), Buss Osborne (killer vocals on "God Of Thunder"), Kiss' Bruce Kulick, Page Hamilton (vocals and guitar on "Calling Doctor Love"), Phil Lewis (with a rather boring vocal job on "Strutter"), and C.C. Deville. The most fun on this album is Lemmy singing a riotous version of "Shout It Out Loud". Although the other tracks are decent, this one adds so much more to the original. Another highlight is hearing Page Hamilton belt out "Dr. Love". This album would serve good on a road trip this summer with all your favorite Kiss songs here in all their glory. Well, maybe a Kiss greatest hits would do the same job. The first printing includes a 40 minute documentary on the making of this album. If you care.
