They are calling this the East meets West of indie rock with Kilowatthours hailing from Brooklyn and The Run Diary coming from San Francisco. These two bands met at a show in an old dirty warehouse in Oakland and decided to work on a spilt album. This is the result of six months of work. They have even included a collaboration called "{Ex}Change". I am familiar with Kilowatthours music but this is the first time I have heard Rum Diary. In actual fact, the music flows quite nicely together. This "split" is not done in the traditional fashion where one band is presented on the first half of the album and the other band is on the second half. Instead, these two bands opt for switching up the songs each taking up four song slots and then collaboration on the middle song. It works really well and the music is amazing. I think collaborations such as this really bring out the best in both bands. Rum Diary tends to be slightly heavier but the music still fits in with what the Kilowatthours are doing. The last track "In Attempt To Reach The Shore" is an awesome display of musicianship by the Rum Diary. I will definitely be checking out their previous output. They are very melodic if quiet. Kilowatthours tends to be a little more focused and even with not as many edges. This is a great album presenting to really underrated bands in the vein of shoegazer rock.
