Simon Emmerson, most famous for his Afro Celt Sound System project, has a new one under his belt. He has joined forces with producer Phil Meadley to create the Outernationalists, a world fusion group to end all others. This album is more of a mix than a full on creation of the two principals. Think along the lines of the 1 Giant Leap project only with a little more funk and beats. We get some obscure artists contributing but they are all held together nicely with the mixing and producing on this album. They really manage to take music from all over the world and compile them into a cohesive album that is impressive. One artist that I do recognize is fellow Six Degrees recording artist, Hawke. Others come from Africa, Europe, Middle East, India and many other regions. This album is a great fit for the Six Degrees label as well because it pretty much culminates their entire reason for being in existence. And Simon finds room to fit in Afro Celts too on the closer "Deep Channel", one of the best mixes with bagpipes and beats. Not like they have much competition in this area.
