When the Thievery Corporation hit the masses with Sounds From The Thievery Hi-Fi in 1997 I was instantly drawn to their ability to mix genres a create a downtempo dub sound like I had never heard before. In the meantime they released a compilation Abductions And Reconstructions that really didn't have the diversity that their debut had so I have been eagerly awaiting The Mirror Conspiracy. Upon first listen again I was reminded of how much talent these two producer have. A few more vocals on here including the new international sensation, Bebel Gilberto. They seem to have gone a bit away from the heavy dub sound they had on the first album and have provided us with an even cleaner production. World beat has been seamlessly integrated into their mix of dub reggae, trip-hop, acid jazz and it works to their advantage. One of this years highlights for sure! Garza and Hilton so often get compared to Kruder and Dorfmeister but G & H reign supreme because this is their second outstanding album of original material
