Fred Magnon is back with his Avril project (his middle name) after taking home the Prix Constantin (the French version of the coveted Mercury Prize) for his debut. Avril sat down in France to work on Members Only and I would say that He has managed to create quite an album. The music can be fairly brooding like on the dark "Room". It's not really the song that is dark but the production of it. It seems like a soundtrack for a horror movie. Then he turns it right around with the bright rock song "Can't Stand Your Ex's Rock Band". It's almost a punk song with a few electronic elements happening. "Power" jumps into the beats again and Avril succeeds in getting into your head with this one. "TV Dinner" pretty much sets the stage too. It's a clever song full of beats and French spoken word vocals. Members Only is a little different than Fred's debut but I don't think it's an extreme move. If you enjoyed Horse then you will most likely be into Members Only. He has just tried to inject some more energy into the music, something he has accomplished live and he wanted to bring into his album.
