It is indeed time for Max Cavalera to release another relentless Soulfly album upon us. This time around be witness to his Prophecy. Just what does Max want to tell us? "Defeat U" might answer that. Max is riding high on this album and has created an even more crushing album than Primitive, the last album that I checked in with. Soulfly gets a bad rap for some iffy albums but I think that is due to the diversity of them. Take, for instance, "Mars" where Max takes a bludgeonly heavy song and injects a flamenco guitar (Mark Rizzo) in the middle only to break down in a reggae style jam nearing the end. Diverse indeed and I think he may have lost some fans with this. I would argue that Cavalera is more talented than his fans can handle. Listen to the screaming guitar of "Execution Style" only to break down into a Slayer type song for proof of just how heavy Soulfly is capable. Maybe I intrigued you with the reggae comment above. If so, tune into "Moses" which is a full-on reggae track complete with a little bit of that dub sound. It goes the reverse of that other song and throws some heavy shit smack in the middle. "In The Meantime", yup, the Helmet tune, slows things down a little but remains sludgy and heavy as shit. Prophecy just may be Max's career highlight but time will tell. Sure, he's experimental but that's what keeps you guessing.
