I didn't know anything about Silent Drive when Love Is Worth It landed in my mailbox but I started to get some ideas of what to expect when I read that members of Bane and Drowningman were in the band. That was so wrong though because this is definitely not hardcore like the aforementioned bands. Instead we get a bit of emo mixed with some interesting pop elements. The first track "4/16" throws us a bit with its speed but if you heard Zach Gordon's whispers at the beginning then mix that with the aggression later in the song you actually will have a inkling on what to expect. "American Classic" then comes in with chiming guitars and some very poppy vocals. Not what you would expect but damn, it's catchy. I think some of the pop elements on Love Is Worth It might be due to the production job of Bill Stevenson. It works somehow. I can even hear a little Faith No More come into play on a couple tracks, possibly with the piano on "Broken Hearts Club". The pummeling "Our Lady of the Worthless Miracle" pounds out some great hardcore with a bit of a quieter bridge in the middle. Have a listen to the moody closer "Boyfriend Notes". It's a gentle track but damn impressive with its dark overtones. Give it a chance and Silent Drive just might grow on you. You may dismiss it with just one listen. It just different enough that people might actually pay attention.
