Mclusky - The Difference Between You And Me is That I'm Not On Fire
McLusky capture a lot of indie fans with their first album released state-side, Mclusky do Dallas. They have gone with Steve Albini again for production and I feel that this time they haven't seen quite the same results as they did on Dallas. Some tracks end up being totally grating like "You Should Be Ashamed, Seamus" but they redeem themselves with "Lucky Jim". The album kicks off with one of the finest moments. "Without Msg I Am Nothing" has a single note guitar bringing us into the album before and during Andy's ranting. The album definitely has a weirdness to it. The one exception has to be "She Will Only Bring You Happiness", a pop gem in the middle of mayhem. In the end, I don't feel that Mclusky have outdone their debut. In fact, with the changes they have made, they may have taken a step or two in the wrong direction. I do give them credit for trying new things though. It takes a strong band to move away from a tried and true formula.
