The trio known as Old Time Relijun has been bringing us their music for almost a decade now. Their new K Records album, Lost Light is probably their finest to date. It has also been a while since we have heard from Jon Spencer so Old Time Relijun should fill in the gap quite nicely. Arrington De Dionyso's panicked singing is every bit as urgent on Lost Light as we have seen in the past. The music is raw but really well thought out. Some points I get a feeling of the Cramps but OTR is even rawer. I also hear some Talking Heads in Arrington's vocals. The music is nothing like TH but the vocals are a little like a crazed David Byrne. Listen to him belt out the intro to "Vampire Victim" and you will be convinced that the man is possessed. Lost Light has blues elements but it is so raw that punk oozes out as well. It sounds like the band could snap at any time and that something might be lost but never goes there. Some of their music can be quite challenging like "Music Of The Spheres" but it's all forward thinking and different than a lot of other music right now. I quite enjoyed this album, although I was definitely in the mood for something a little more aggressive and out there.
