Elf Power are back with the new album, Walking With The Beggar Boys. If you are familiar with the band you might notice a bit of a stylistic change in their sound. It's a little more pop and not as much experimentation. They have moved away from the psychedelic sound that was so prominent on previous albums and have come forward with their most straight-ahead album. The album starts out totally strong with "Never Believe" but seems to go a little downhill by the time they get to "Invisible Men" and "Empty Pictures". Andrew's vocals have changed to suit their pop orientation too. On "Drawing Flies" I get a Fountains of Wayne feel. Strange but true, a power pop sound that you would never catch these guys doing previously. It took a couple of listens for me to get into Walking With The Beggar Boys but I think Elf Power is onto something here. We'll see how the next album unveils and what direction they decide to take.
