The underground hip-hop movement is alive and well with acts such as Soul Position, The Procussions and Atmosphere. A new group is on the prowl but in reality, the Sound Providers have been in existence since 1998. An Evening With... is their debut full-length and it is a hot release. I'm not a mainstream hip-hop guy. I, instead opt for the creativity and inventiveness of the underground world. The mainstream hip-hop world is raft with hooligans and idiots that ruin what could be good music. There is a feeling of harmony and camaraderie in the underground world. Not to mention that bands like Sound Providers seem so laid back that the grooves just flow right out of them with little effort. I believe that this is all due to the heavy jazz influence you can hear in tracks like "Only Moments Ago". Another thing that contributes to the easy going nature of the underground scene is that the MCs don't try to ram down their point of view. They are more about having fun than anything else. Even on a track like "Never Judge", they most important thing here is the scratching going on. Soulo's MC work is a great addition too. There are just some straight ahead grooves with instrumental tracks like "Jazz At The Cove". A lot of these instrumental tracks are grooves that get even the most stubborn dancer moving their booty. An Evening With The Sound Providers is yet another great underground hip hop album.
