Vinyl - Vinyl EP
With a generic name like Vinyl and an even more generic EP name, it was hard to find any information on this Iceland based rock group. The band has that raw rock sound down pat. Vinyl's vocalist, Kristinn, sounds like a little more refined Iggy Pop and could easily be singing for Franz Ferdinand or a similar band. EP starts out with the hard rocking "Nobody's Fool" and gives you a good taste of what to expect from this quintet. Keyboards are a big part of Vinyl's sound and they really work nicely thanks to the great delivery by Thorhallur. While the band does rely heavily on the rock sound, there is the accessibility side of things as well. The music is polished up quite nicely and doesn't come across as a garage rock. There is a moment on the closing track "Miss Iceland" where Egill's guitar basically rips off GnR's "Welcome To The Jungle" but it works really well with the song. I found myself slobbering for more after the four songs were over. There is a cool video on their website for the first single "Who Gets the Blame". Go check it out because I predict that Vinyl will be coming on strong once they get some proper North American distribution.
