Gomez - Split The Difference
I've been a Gomez fan since day one so be prepared for a bit of a biased opinion. With that out of the way, I do have to say that Gomez has totally outdone themselves with Split The Difference. With my biases aside you have to hear me out. Split The Difference is the groups fourth album and throughout that time they haven't really released a crappy album. Their music is very mature and most people in the world would enjoy hearing this music if given the opportunity. It's tracks like "Nothing Is Wrong" that dictate that Gomez should be a household name. It really is a shame that a band with this calibre isn't being played on radio all over the world. For Split The Difference Gomez brought in famed producer Tchad Blake to give a bit of a different sound than their fans were used to. Fortunately there is enough of the old sound that fans can easily get into this album. Gomez have it all on here. Listen to the heavily distorted guitars on "Where Ya Going". It is a song that could fit onto any jam band's bill while sounding a little like it was off of Siamese Dream. The newest single released in the UK is "Sweet Virginia", one of the quieter songs on the album. These Brits have class all the way and close out the album with a sort of lullaby and it could be the best song on the album. It's called "There It Was" and it is comprised of an acoustic guitar, piano, stand-up bass and gentle vocals in perfect key. There is nothing on Split The Difference that shouldn't be, marking one of this years best albums.
