Tricky - Blowback
Tricky seems to have slipped out of the spotlight since his first groundbreaking album Maxinquaye. Things should change with the release of the superstar clad Blowback. He has turned towards some big hitters for this album like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Alanis Morrissette, Ed Kowalczyk (from Live), Cyndi Lauper and the lesser known but album highlight Ambersunshower. With stars like Cyndi and Alanis (they could easily be replaced by any other female singers in their small parts) Tricky has shown much improvement in the song structure creation. He could have easily made the album with his Shaggy soundalike Hawkman and the vocal talents of Ambersunshower. I can see why he resorted to using the other artists though in order to sell his album. The RHCP track (“Girls) is stellar with Anthony Kiedis and Tricky sharing vocal duties. You will also find John Frusciante and Flea on “#1 Da Woman with John assisting with vocal duties. Although not quite as cutting edge as Maxinquaye, Tricky has created a very cool album that is bound to please old and new fans alike. The album states that its enhanced but don’t get excited.
