An Pierle is a Belgian born singer/songwriter that is slowly gaining momentum. A few years ago no one knew who she was but on the dawn of her sophomore album there are quite a few people waiting eagerly. I would lump her into the Tori Amos category with her beautiful voice and sensitive piano playing. But she is not limited to that sound. Sure, you can hear it on tracks like "Miss Me", one of the quieter tracks on Helium Sunset but on a couple tracks like "Sorry" she has a very strong voice. There is a nice duet with Koen Gisen, sounding similar to Nick Cave on "Nobody's Fault", one of the better tracks on the album. Ultimately, Helium Sunset is charming but lacks substance to keep listeners coming back for more. Pierle shows great promise but needs to work at hooks and melodies to maintain listeners. Try a few more songs like "Sister" and you may get there. Fans of female songwriters will definitely like An but her fanbase may remain small unless a few changes are made.
