Are you ready for some Kristin Hersh rock and roll? It's funny to think that this is the same girl that was responsible for 2001's Sunny Border Blue. 50 Foot Wave is rock and roll at it's finest. Guitars are distorted and Kristin sings from her gut, screaming out lyrics like the best of them. This EP is the first of what could prove to be many from the band. Kristin plans on releasing an EP every couple months while touring relentlessly with the new trio (featuring ex-Throwing Muses bassist Bernard Georges). This self-titled EP is a strong introduction to 50 Foot Wave. There are only 6 tracks on this EP but any more and your head would pop off. This is honestly the most intense I have ever heard Hersh. She is insane on tracks like "Lavender", bringing back memories of other 90s indie rock bands. The songs aren't that memorable but you have to give them credit for giving us some of the most intense rock we have heard outside of the garage/NY scene. It allows us to let loose and I'm sure that's exactly what Kristin has planned with 50 Foot Wave. A rollercoaster of a ride but quite pleasurable. BTW - The closer "Dog Days" is my favorite out of the 6.
