I hadn't heard of the Gamits before Antidote hit my desk but as I quickly learned, it was my loss. These guys are a pop/punk outfit from the USA and have gained a huge following overseas before making a big splash back home. Big In Japan is a favorite saying in the music biz but it is indeed true for the Gamits. Antidote is the groups third album with all of them released on the Suburban Home label. The band play a version of punk-a-roll that has everything in the right places. It is really scary how good these guys harmonize on 80% of the songs. Listen to "Open Window" and you might think that you are listening to a Green Day song with many harmonies thrown on top. This album is all about good times with your friends and nice melody being the solution. Sometimes I felt sick with how slick some of these songs sounded, but it was a good sick. "Golden Sometimes" was a little much but otherwise, Antidote has what it takes to cure your rock bordom. The album ends off with a mellow track entitled "Bridges", a song that wraps everything up nicely and leaves a good taste in your mouth. While Antidote doesn't bring anything new to the table, it does show us how infectious this punk genre can be and the potential that it has.
