One of the cool things about little labels like Deep Elm is these collaborative EPs that they release. They end up showcasing what a great label they are. Three of their newer artists, Desert City Soundtrack, Settlefish, and my favorite Sounds like Violence, who evidently drew the short straw with only one song on here, have all come together with one cause, to rock. Sounds Like Violence have contributed probably the strongest song of the 6 song EP, "I Push You Up The Stairs", a track that has such a big sonic assault that the other two bands pale in comparison. Settlefish seem to have pulled the long straw because they have three tracks to Sounds Like Violence's one. I'm not a huge fan of theirs but the three tracks they contribute to this split shine a brighter light on the band. And Desert City Soundtrack fit right in the middle with a modest two songs. Another of Deep Elm's bands that I haven't completely warmed up too but I did really enjoy Funeral Car. "Send Your Soldiers TO Do The Killing" is a passionate song with their trademark emo piano throughout the entire song. "January's Loss" is the quietest track on the album and pretty much doesn't fit in. This collaboration is a bit of hit and miss but worth it on the basis of the Sounds Like Violence track alone.
