Nuevo Latino is the next in the ongoing series of theme specific worldbeat albums from Putumayo. And I do have to admit, it is one of their strongest ones to date too. It's not hard to culminate an album worth of material of great, cutting edge latin artists so that could be why Putumayo was totally successful on Nueva Latino. The artists on here push the boundaries on what is Latin. We shall call it Altino (TM pending). The music is a culmination of Cuban, Brazilian, Argentinean, Columbian, as well as other more contemporary genres. For instance, Jarabe De Palo (from Spain) integrates a heavy blues influence into his music, sounding like a Spanish Eric Clapton. You may have seen a review earlier this year of an artist named Federico Aubele from Argentina. He has contributed a track called "Postales" that was on his debut album. It is a forward thinking tango music maker. You have to listen to the track to see where he is coming from. Sergent Garcia from France/Spain integrates a reggae/dub feel to his song "Mi Ultima Voluntad". After the 11 tracks on Nueva Latino are over you are left wanting more. It is one of the best Putumayo releases in recent history.
