Havergal is the one man show by Ryan Murphy. Elettricita is his second album for the Secretly Canadian label. Havergal is a soft spoken project with songs hardly even making a blip on the map at times. It's not slow-core per say but instead Ryan takes a song in a minimalistic form and is able to make it quite pretty. The first real song, not including the introduction, starts you out with quite an amazing performance. While "Drowned Men" is a gentle track, it bounces all over the place faster than an Aphex Twin track. All this and somehow Murphy is able to keep the track so quiet. Then, for a lot of the album, Havergal resort to a mellow Modest Mouse sound, a little like The Silver Jews. Ryan layers his vocals making it sound lusher than it normally would have. The songs are nice as music that doesn't distract. I found Elettricita a calming album that was good to work to. It's hard to deny the clever charm that is in "Far Enough To Be Alone". Curious? You should be.
