Ministry - Houses of the Mole
I approached Ministry's latest offering with little expectations and I was rewarded with one of the greatest albums I have heard from the band. Seriously! It's been a little while since I have checked in with the band due to horrible reviews of their most recent, a few mediocre ones on Animositisomina. Regardless, I received Houses of the Mole and heard that Ministry was coming back to Calgary after many years (unfortunately missed the show) so my curiosity was heightened once again. This album really does impress. Of course, like every band shooting for a comeback, this is the album that a band like Ministry has been trying to make for some time. And it just takes a little political fire to get Al Jourgensen and crew all fired up (like so many bands this election year). Ministry provides us with a fast and furious ride through a hand-full of songs with every inch of energy Al can conjure up. These songs are heavy but accessible by todays measure. No, I'm not saying that Ministry is about to become radio material but it is light hearted fare compared to the likes of Drowningman or In My Eyes. I'm not sure what the significance of "W" is but all the songs start with it. Quite clever. I actually found the grinding noises on Houses of the Mole a perfect album to get down to work on my computer. It harkens back the days of Ministry's prime, Land of Rape and Honey and the infamous Psalm 69. I am very sorry that I missed the show here in Calgary. I think Ministry have veered back on course and delivered a fantastic album.
