Although I've owned Motherfuckers Be Trippin' for nearly a year, it's just been recently that I've actually listened to it for what it is; a kick-ass rock-n-roll record, plain and simple. That's all there is to it. For too long I expected something deeper from it, as if there was some hidden meaning that I had yet to decipher.

For those of us that miss the days when Guns 'N Roses was something more than the butt of every joke, the Supersuckers are just about the next best thing. Sounding something like a cross between the blues-rock side of G'N'R and the power-riff spitting Motorhead, Eddie Spaghetti and company bring back a side of rock that isn't really around anymore. And while they're often nearly referred to as a novelty act, their music is ironically better than most of the bands that they're imitating.

Motherfuckers Be Trippin' starts out with one of the best "1-2-3 punches" ever put to record; each track is a complete knockout. "Rock-N-Roll Records (Ain't Sellin' This Year)" and "Rock Your Ass" are both sleazy, blazing definitions of the genre. The pace lets up slightly on "Pretty Fucked Up," the best song on the album. Spaghetti's chorus which features the lines "She used to be pretty / but now she's just pretty fucked up" will be humorous to some, while surely offending others.

Compared to other Supersuckers albums, Motherfuckers Be Trippin' may be a little lighter due to some nearly ballad-like songs on the second half, but it ranks just as highly in terms of quality. Like most of their albums, there are a couple of bland rockers, but even those pack enough energy to give everyone a kick in the ass. Although their sound has hardly changed over the last fifteen years, we as fans do not mind at all as long as they keep putting out quality music.
