Morrissey - You Are The Quarry
I'm probably not the right person to be reviewing a Morrissey album. I've never really respected his songwriting or enjoyed his voice all that much. I was sent You Are The Quarry to review so it was time to investigate Mr. Morrissey once again. I am a little more mature and am comfortable with my feminine side (finally!). It has actually been 7 years since we have had an album from the man and from what I hear, this one has been well received by fans and critics alike. I have to admit, on this somewhat gloomy afternoon, sitting here working, his music is providing a decent backdrop and I'm not throwing off my headphones in disgust. This is coming from a (former) Morrissey hater. Hell, his voice on tracks like "I'm Not Sorry" are divine. Now, I do have to give the guy credit for his no-holds-barred shot against the USA on "America Is Not The World". "America you know where you can shove your hamburger". "Hey You, you big fat pig!" By the time I got past the first half I was pretty much back to where I have been in the past with Morrissey, bored. I know people swoon at the guy's voice and that many people praise his every song but I can't really see where that fits in. You Are The Quarry is really not a bad album, just one that doesn't really fit into what I tend to like. I will take this album one song at a time from now on. This way, it does go down quite nicely.
