All the old school bands are coming back. Pixies have proven a successful reunion, something that isn't as easy as it sounds. Next up is American Music Club. Now these guys were never as big as the Pixies but they have indeed been just as influential in the music world. You could arguably say that American Music Club is probably the most under-rated San Francisco based rock band ever. The band called it quits after 1994's San Francisco, their second album for Reprise. Now, 10 years later, Eitzel and the gang have decided to give it another go. Eitzel's solo career has been a bit of a mixed bag so I kind of approached Love Songs For Patriots with a little reservation. I found it was not needed as this is probably the best output from AMC. These guys are hot on this album. And I think the same thing is going on here with this AMC release, you have to be a little older to respect the jazz influences and other elements. But then again, who can deny the beauty of the track "Another Morning"? This is probably the best I have ever heard Mark Eitzel's voice. You would have to be a music hater not to respect what they accomplish hear. What about "Patriot's Heart"? It sounds like Nick Cave should be singing here. I definitely think that Eitzel's songwriting has improved over his solo career. It's nice for the guys in the band to give him a second chance with the band. It's nice to hear the lovely sound of Vudi's guitar once again. This year has proven that sometimes reunion's can be a good thing. It's nice with American Music Club because you know that these guys aren't in it for the money. They never really were.
