The Sound of Young New York II is a compilation of mixed dance punk along the lines of !!! and the Rapture (absent from this compilation). It's a non-stop mix of 10 tracks from New York's latest bands to pop up. The comp starts out with a track that sounds like a complete rip-off from the Happy Monday's, the band is called Itchy Revolutions and the song is "Face Me". The Faint is up next with a slight reworking of "Your Retro Career Melted", on of the album highlights. A group called I:Cube brings in the RZA for a track called "Can You Deal With That" which is a pretty decent hip hop track mixed with a house background. And of course you really can't go wrong this year with !!!. Plant has secured the rights to the amazing "My & Giuliani By The Schoolyard" for arguably the best contribution here. "Freak Huh?" from D'Boldiss is complete and utter crap. It sounds some diva with an identity crisis. And Glass' "Forever" really seems like a total retro feel. Almost like Peter Schilling or something else of that era. So, The Sound Of Young New York II is a bit of a hit and miss. It is a good document to showcase the dance punk style that is so prominent but I think it also shows that many of these bands lack a little in the originality department.
