The Monorail think that indie rockers need to get out there and shake it for a change foot tapping is not considered a dance move and with their EP A Whole New city they set out to make the indie masses move, although they do so with mixed results. the first half of the record had me on the verge of dancing but kept breaking the rhythim. On the first song "Busy Mess Stress Test" everytime I felt comfortable enough with the groove the band threw some powerchords in and I didnt know whether to dance a little or thrash. The second and third tracks "q+a and The Shizampah" were a little on the slow side, but then on the fourth track "The Club" we hit paydirt with a nice groove that had me wishing I could actually dance. On the fifth track "Writing has no volume" we find that the previous song was just a warm up with a straight up disco bassline coupled with some nice lyrics and we have a song that can make people actually want to dance. On the last track "16, 17, 18" we go back to square one where we get close only to be offput by a harder guitar riff. The monorail might be onto something here and maybe in the future they can really make the crowds dance but here they come close but ultimately fall a little short of the finish line.
