On the bio for Ghosts In The Concrete the person compares Matthew Shaw to Postal Service. I honestly can't think of a better comparison. If Shaw didn't do this type of music so well I would swear that he was ripping of PS. It's a pretty impressive debut full-length, especially considering that Matthew does pretty much everything himself. He does get a little help on the programming side of things but that's minor considering. The songs are well written but that's really only half the story here. The beautiful part of it is the arrangements. Sure, he uses electronics to create a lot of the backing instrumentation but it fits his bleak vocals. There are times where you think of Bright Eyes but again, not in the plagiarism sense, more in influence. The album starts out with the indicative "Constant Movement". It's got a good beat even though it comes of a little sparse. Then he moves into one of the closest tracks to the Postal Service, "Transition". I really like his voice. I found myself listening to Ghosts In The Concrete over and over again which is impressive given my timeline. There really isn't a song on the album that should have been dropped. They are all decent. Hang on for the remix of "Remedy", it's really good. If you are into bedroom created music you need to track this one down. I was very impressed.
