God, Paul Weller and Andy Partridge must just be laughing. It is looking like there is going to be a second coming of their super catchy style of Brit pop and bands like The Futureheads and Dogs Die In Hot Cars are leading the charge. I would have to say that The Futureheads have a bit of a lead over Dogs but not by much and it is strictly in the sense that The Futureheads are slightly poppier and catchier. You get a good idea what to expect on the lead of track "Le Garage" but the best is really yet to come. "Stupid and Shallow" is bound for the radio with its complicated and yet accessible guitar riff and fun chorus. I do have a question, what in the world is "Alms"? The band's key is that they keep pretty much all of their songs under the three minute mark. It makes them even that much more immediate. Not to mention that they are all amazing vocalists/harmonists. Listen to one of the album's best tracks, "A To B" for some hardcore proof of the harmonies. They even take on Kate Bush's "Hounds of Love" and actual take it up a notch with a bit of a do-wop style. Speaking of do-wop I'm sure pretty much anyone would be impressed with "Danger of the Water". The album proves to be a keeper but because the Futureheads are such a new band I predict we will se some even better songwriting on a future album.

The band has chosen wisely and have been opening for Franz Ferdinand in North America so I would guess that they scammed a bunch of fans from FF. The good thing is that The Futureheads get better with every listen so give them time. A new wave revival would be welcome, I think.
