Even though he hasn't been the most original shock-rocker in history, Marilyn Manson does deserve to be recognize. A few years back when he dropped Antichrist Superstar there was so much controversy about the man(?). When you listen to Lest We Forget, his new Best Of compilation, you can't help but feel that there is so much heavier stuff out there. Tracks like his cover "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)" were purposely crafted so the guy would get radio play. And it worked, for a time. But people grew wise to Mr. Manson's marketing. He has seen dwindling sales but I think he still has some pretty devoted fans out there. Tracks like "Tainted Love" and the new "Personal Jesus" just haven't had the same effect as "Sweet Dreams", even though I enjoy them guiltily. Think of him as today's David Bowie with the amount of glam and glitz that he puts into tracks like "The Dope Show". If I was Mike Patton I might be knocking on Manson's door for some money for the little bit in "mOBSCENE". It's still a catchy song. His music has hooks and is almost immediately likeable. This compilation actually exposed me to a lot of songs that I hadn't heard before. Lest We Forget would make a good present for that young hellion in the family. All depends on how influential the little punk is. If you have a few of Marilyn's individual albums, cash 'em in and pick this one up.

Very appropriate collection for Manson, especially at this time during his career. It serves as an excellent buffet of some of Manson's bigger hits and fan favorites. The only new track, a cover of Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus", works very well, even if it feels a bit hurried. Anyone not familiar would do good to start here, as there isn't a point in Manson's career that isn't covered (although some more material from the pre-Antichrist era would have been appreciated).

this isn't his best cd, no. it is still good nonetheless. i enjoyed his cover of tainted love quite a bit, had a good sound to it. sweet dreams originally appeared on his smells like children cd as a cover to the eurythmics....why i don't know...that song kinda sucked when they did it he did an improvement to it so that i could stomache it. i like eurythmics but that song sucked. anyway, i like this cd enough to play it at work at least once a month.
