Fax Arcana is a fairly new act from Indiana that is laying waste to all the member's former bands. There are members of bands like Rapider Than Horsepower, Rep Seki and Majas as well. The style that Fax Arcana plays is quite interesting considering that I have listened to this EP 6 times already (I receive 20 CDs a week!). It wasn't that I was sucked in right away, it was more like I knew something was there and I wouldn't drop it until I figured it out. Think if Fugazi tried doing something along the lines of Thrice, or if At The Drive-In did a side project with Jello Biafra. Something along those lines. Anyway, this 6 track (4 proper songs and one fucking annoying busy signal for 45 minutes!) really showcase a talented band. I kept thinking that if Paw was still around, this is where they might be today. They don't want to be lumped in with Emo which means the must have something in common with those people. Remember that proper Emo is not a bad thing. It's that sappy Dashboard Confessional stuff that ruined the term. This is definitely not pansy music. It's heavy and emotional and demands to be listened to loud. Unfortunately I have to drop 1/2 a star because of the 45 minute busy signal at the end, WHY, people, WHY do you insist on wasting people's valuable time. If you only have four songs than put four songs on the disc. Anyway, I'll be watching Fax Arcana for their follow-up to The Ritual In Routine, a very valiant debut EP.
