The Silos - When The Telephone Rings
The Silos are a band that has been around for what seems like forever without really ever gaining much exposure. I haven't heard them before even though they have been around for like 20 years. When The Telephone Rings is a very decent slab of Americana with a lot of contemporary elements in it. The collection shows a very diverse band that is capable of many different styles. The Silos seem to be able to tread the thin line of rock and country very nicely. There are some twang elements but then they turn it into roots rock on tracks like "Ready For Anything" that reminds me a little of the Wallflowers. They don't have issues rocking out. They never get too heavy but songs like "Innocent" rock pretty heavy for an Americana band. Vocalist Walter Salas-Humara has a great voice and is very adaptable to different styles. Along with Walter, they incorporate the vocals of Amy Allison which fit in very nicely. She's got a great backing vocal style and is not afraid to step out every now and then. There is also some decent The Silos have created a really decent album in a world where hardly anyone knows about them. Hopefully their new deal with Dualtone will help get them some much needed exposure and When The Telephone Rings will end up doing all right.
