This album is fucked up just enough that it might get noticed. The main reason I say fucked up is because he doesn't play conventional instruments and his lyrics are as off kilter as...damn, I don't even know ("I'm gonna rub my elbows until they sparkle in the sun"). Mike Silverman is That 1 Guy and instead of going down to his local music shop to buy a guitar, he opts for his own instrument, the "Magic Pipe", some wacked out configuration of pipes and bass strings hooked up to crazy effects. Is Songs In The Key of Beotch good? Well, that will honestly depend on who you ask, and when you ask them. It honestly took me a couple months to review this album because I couldn't decide if I liked it or not. And really, I still have reservations but I felt that Silverman deserves a bit of cyberspace dedicated to this original project. Also, That 1 Guy's vocals are really impressive. Mike can sing like nobody's business even though his lyrics are left field ("It's raining meat and I can't see my own feet" one of the super funky tracks on Beotch). I think if Silverman decided to actually get a good band behind him his lyrics and good vocals would stand out even more. I think the Magic Pipe takes too much away from this project. It will be interesting to see where Mike takes this project next. He definitely gets an A for effort on this project, maybe a C on delivery though.
