RecommendWhat makes The Thermals so refreshing is their honesty and lack of inhibitions. "Fuckin A" is a direct statement intended to set you right-proper. It's about saying what you mean how you mean it and being carefree, fun, and straightforward. "We're self mending, self cleansing, we wont flinch, we don't give a shit, were not listening!" (Our Trip)
Because of the heavy distortion and simple repetitive chord progressions, some songs sound quite similar, making it a point to listen to this album carefully and give it time. Hooks are definitely there, though it may take a few listens to find them. Once they're found, however, it takes days to untangle yourself from the netting they've triumphantly caught you under.
"Fuckin A" is a follow up to "More Parts Per Million," and while this is a more professional recording, as it wasn't recorded on equipment bought at K-mart like their previous album, it still maintains the messy and spontaneous quality that sets The Thermals apart. This album definitely deserves a "Fuckin A," so to speak.

Nice review, sorry I missed it the first time. But then again thats why I love this site. Always a second chance to pick up on an unheard of. Sounds like a very direct no frills no type effort. While that's definitely my idea of writing from time to time, I'm not sure I would ever grade something that short with a 4.5 star. Then again, you're the Queen of observation Estee, and I've been wrong from time to time. I'll have to check this out.
