I have been following since his album Pictures From Life's Other Side and have been fairly impressed. One thing I have found surprising is how few people actually know about the morbid singer/songwriter. That album was so dark and brilliant that I was ready to preach that he would be the next Nick Cave. Anyway, five years have passed since that album and I think that time hasn't been all that great to Dowd. Cemetary Shoes is a horrid album. There is nothing redeeming about it whatsoever. He's trying to get even weirder with songs like "Dear John Letter" and the twisted tale "Wedding Dress" (the damn warbly effects on the chorus have to be outlawed). The songs are there in rough form but the musical arrangements really don't do the songs justice whatsoever. He still shows that he has something special on "Whisper In A Nag's Ear" but the rest of the album falls completely flat. Hopefully he collects himself for the next album and blows us all away, or not. Doesn't seem like anyone is really paying attention anyway.
