Lost Marbles and Exploded Evidence may not be the logical place for a person to get introduced to Enon but that's exactly where I'm at. This collection culls songs from Enon's entire existence and brings together rarities, singles and DVD featuring 10 little vignettes and videos of the band. You may remember John Schmersal from Brainiac. Lost Marbles starts out with one of Enon's poppiest tracks on the set, "Knock That Door". But as I learned quickly, songs that are this poppy are not normal from Enon. Instead, the band chooses to walk the line between pop and noise and does so very expertly. I find the switch off of male/female vocals to be very compelling although I do wish that Toko sang a little more often. She's got a beautiful voice that is capable of many different styles. Not taking away from Schmersal's because he is quite versatile as well. The brilliance of Enon actually comes through on songs where they share the vocals like "Tilt You Up". I found some cases of Enon to be annoying but for the most part, you start to get a feel for their sound and and get into the groove. They never get as annoying as Brainiac was. They do have so many instances of female beauty when Toko takes over the vocals. Her vocals are seductive and clever. I know there are a lot of hardcore Enon fans that will die for this release. For the rest of you, it is always surprising to see how many good songs a band disposes of and never really uses them for anything other than a "rarity". It is a strong collection sounding complete. The band walks the fine line between electronic music and organic music and comes off with something that sounds quite fresh. Overall, this album gave me the guts to be open to their music. I will pay attention to Enon from now on. And the stuff on the DVD is amazing! I might have to check out their last album too.
