Bars is a new Boston four-piece hardcore band that leans a little more toward the melodic while still maintaining an angry approach to their music. Introducing... is the band's debut album that is so steeped in old school hardcore that it actually sounds relevant today. Their bio talks about heavy rock influences which really do run rampant throughout but it's Kevin Baker's (ex-Hope Conspiracy) vocals that keep that foot in the hardcore vein. He's been compared to Henry Rollins and Billy Milano but imagine that being backed up by a heavy duty rock band in the vein of Nashville Pussy. The band is filled out by members of American Nightmare and Death By Stereo. The actually manage to slow it down on "Too Far Down" into a swampy mess. Yup, it's a rocking affair and they quickly enter my "have to see live" list. There is so much aggression in this music and it's all presented in a nicely wrapped package that any hard rock fan should appreciate. The only problem I see is that there will probably be a few people who whine about Bars being copiers. Sure, they do copy old school hardcore a little but in the world of today, you might be interested in the way they use those old school influences. I do have to question their name too. Not very interesting or inovative.
