I haven't followed Damon and Naomi through their career. I only know them from their existence with the infamous Galaxie 500. The Earth Is Blue is the duo's sixth album and first one not to appear on Sub Pop, instead opting for their own 20/20/20 label stateside and Sonic Unyon in Canada. On this album they continue their work with members of Ghost and it proves to be a fruitful affair once again. Michio Kurihara helps out with the beautiful guitar sounds you hear throughout the album. It seems to add quite a bit to Damon & Naomi's overall ambience. The songs are well crafted, if not immediately memorable. It does take a few listens to get into The Earth Is Blue but I'm sure even part-time fans will see merits in the latest Damon & Naomi. One of the highlights is the remarkable cover of the Beatles' "While My Guitar Gentle Weeps". It is a rendition worthy of such a great song, Naomi providing some of her most luxurious vocals of the album. Definitely not for everyone but anyone interested in the mellow side of the rock spectrum need to check this album out.
