Tylenol is trying to gain indie credibility with a new sampler/split EP you can find in some of the hipper magazines out there. I got my American Analog Set/White Magic split in the Winter edition of Fader magazine. American Analog Set is first up with three songs and only one of the three I recognize. The track "The Postman" was from a previous release but it has been reworked here. The first AAS track is called "Immaculate Heart" and alone is worth tracking down this EP in a magazine. It is beautiful. "The Postman" is a reworking from a previous album but is presented here very gracefully. It reminds me of why I like American Analog Set. "Play Hurt" is the weakest of the three tracks but is still a nice track.
I found getting into White Magic a little more difficult. It sounds like a little more modern Jefferson Airplane. Mira Billotte's vocals are as droney as they come. There is a piano present for the most part but I found all three tracks annoying. The three songs "Day", "Twilight", and "Night" are all very similar in their delivery. I can see this appealing to some people but I found no merits in White Magic whatsoever. Advice... Rip the three American Analog Set songs. Toss the rest.
