Edie Sedgwick was a real girl from back in the Andy Warhol New York. Sadly, she OD'ed in 1971 only to leave the legend behind the poor little rich girl. Anyway, what is she doing resurfacing now? Well, Justin Moyer of Antelope and El Guapo fame has taken her identity and has chosen to record some songs based on celebrities. Every single song on Edie Sedgwick's new album is about a famous celebrity. Famous celebrity songs sung in drag. It does sound very kinky but in essence it is harmless. Justin's decides to dive into the electro-clash sound with both feet and had decided to resurrect Edie as his vehicle. And basically what we get is second rate electro-clash with a gimmick. There is some merit to the songs that Edie does but in essence there really isn't much substance to what Sedgwick is doing. The combined gimmick of having songs about celebrities along with being the ugliest drag queen doesn't help the content of Her Love Is Real...But She Is Not. Some tracks are very amusing the repetition of "Relapse, recovery" on "Robert Downey Jr." is one of the album's highlights. As for good songs, I found "Sally Fields" to be a quality song and "Michael J. Fox" borders on something by Notwist but in the end, the incarnation of Edie Sedgwick just turns out to be a novelty.
