Dionysus is a great label that leads the way to great finds in punk, surf, rockabilly, and also releases by labels Baccus Archives and Orange Sky. On this comp, they give us more out of control Japanese loudness, this time from relatively unknown bands. While punk is the touchstone for these bands, the ghost of Cheap Trick crops up as well. There is enough garage pop here to offset those looking for some relief from the frenzy.
Standout tracks include the sloppy goodness of Google-A's "What a Way to Die", No Evacuations' brutal "Hate of the City", the Crampsy "Voice People by The Volume Out, and the anthemic "Regualtions" by Crispy Nuts. A personal disappointment was "Fight It Out" by Jail Guitar Doors, which is the best band name I've heard in awhile, but who only manage to come up with a lame late period Soul Asylum effort. Overall, this is a compilation that gives you a good idea of what is brewing underground in the Japanese rock scene, and what is influencing them. Not the most original bunch of bands, but their heroes are in the right place, and that is a good start.
