Chapter two of Dead Meadow's Matador relation. Feathers is actually toned down a bit from other Dead Meadow albums but before you run off in frustration, have a listen because it seems to bump things up on the listenable scale. Jason Simon has changed his vocal style for the better as well. Gone is the grating nasal sound of yore. He is actually bordering on the Jason Pierce side of things now, as is the music. There is probably more in common with Spiritualized than Blue Cheer on Feathers. Dead Meadow is definitely still psych rock and good psych rock at that. One humorous moment was the drum instrumental (yup, just drums) for the entire 2 minutes of "Through The Gates of the Sleepy Silver Door". The songs are hardly cutting edge in any fashion but they do have that hypnotic feel that draws so many psych rock fans. It is the logical next step for Dead Meadow after Shivering King and Others. Comets On Fire fans should check out Dead Meadow. While not quite as heavy, they do have that lumbering feel to them. Feathers is a good album that will provide a good hazy soundtrack to your late-night party. It also separates these guys a little more from some of the other similar bands in the genre.
